Skin laxity · Montreal

Loose skin treatment starts with a pinch: laxity responds, excess skin does not

"Loose skin" covers two different things. One is laxity: the skin still fits, it has simply lost some of its spring. The other is excess: there is more skin than there is anything to fill it, and it stays folded when you let go.

Only the first responds to anything we sell. Nothing non-surgical removes skin, and no honest clinic will tell you otherwise.

The test takes a second

Pinch a small fold, hold it briefly, then release and watch.

  • It flattens, but slowly. That is laxity — reduced collagen and elastin, skin that fits but has lost recoil. This is the version treatments can influence, modestly, over months.
  • There is surplus that stays. A fold that persists, hangs when you lean forward, or gathers when you move, is excess skin. Collagen stimulation does not shrink a surplus. That is a surgical question and belongs with a plastic surgeon.

Most people know which one they have the moment they do it. The value of doing it before you book is that it saves you from buying the wrong category of thing.

Notice what is not on that list. Our skin-tightening laser is for the face, the neck and the hands. We do not have a body skin-tightening treatment at any of the four clinics, so if the area you are asking about is an abdomen, arms, thighs or a chest, the answer is that we cannot help and we would rather say so on a page than at an appointment you paid to attend.

What "modest" actually means

Non-surgical tightening works by provoking the skin into making new collagen. That is a slow biological process, not a shrinking effect you watch happen. Expect a change judged at three to six months, over a course rather than a session, and expect it to be visible to you before it is visible to anyone else.

The uncomfortable pattern is that it helps mild laxity most and severe laxity least — which means the people who want the biggest change are the people it does least for. That is worth hearing before you spend, not after.

Skin is only one of the layers

What reads as sagging is often not the skin at all. Volume loss underneath, and changes in the fat pads and the bone beneath them, move the surface without the skin itself being the problem — facial ageing happens in four layers, and skin is only the top one. Treating the top layer when the change came from a deeper one is another way to spend money on the wrong thing.

What we will not do

  • Sell skin tightening to someone with excess skin.
  • Claim a device removes or shrinks skin. It does not.
  • Offer a body tightening treatment. We do not have one.
  • Promise a lift. That word belongs to surgery.

When we will not treat you at all

Recently tanned or sunburned skin, active infection or broken skin in the area, certain light-sensitising medications, oral isotretinoin finished within the last six months, and during pregnancy.

See a doctor if

Skin has become loose, thin or fragile quickly rather than gradually, bruises very easily, or the change came with unexplained weight loss, fatigue or other symptoms. Skin that changes fast is reporting something, and that is a question for a physician rather than a treatment menu.

What we offer for this

Prices are a starting point and the consultation is free. What actually suits you is decided when we see the skin, not from a page.

Where to find us

This page is general information and is not medical advice, and the pinch description is a way of thinking about the difference rather than a diagnostic test. Prices are current as of 3 September 2026, are per session, and can change. New Age Spa's skin-tightening laser services are for the face, neck and hands; we do not offer a body skin-tightening treatment at any clinic. Non-surgical skin tightening works by stimulating collagen production; it does not remove or shrink excess skin, results are modest, develop over months and a course of sessions is required. Excess skin is not treatable non-surgically and is a matter for a physician or plastic surgeon. Results vary with age, skin condition, the degree of laxity, sun history and individual healing, and no result is guaranteed; mild laxity responds better than severe laxity. Temporary redness and swelling can follow treatment, and temporary or, rarely, lasting changes in skin colour can occur, with risk differing by skin tone. Treatment is not performed on recently tanned or sunburned skin, over active infection or broken skin, while taking certain light-sensitising medications, within six months of finishing oral isotretinoin, or during pregnancy. Skin that becomes loose, thin or fragile rapidly, bruises very easily, or changes alongside unexplained weight loss, fatigue or other symptoms should be assessed by a physician.
