Cellulite and lymphatic drainage massage: drainage moves fluid, and cellulite is not fluid

Lymphatic drainage is sold for cellulite almost everywhere. It does not treat it. The technique moves fluid between tissues, and cellulite is a structural feature of how skin, connective tissue and fat are arranged.

You can have a very good drainage session and still have exactly the same dimpling when you stand up.

What cellulite actually is

Fibrous bands run from the deeper layers up to the underside of the skin, tethering it down. Fat sits between those bands. Where the bands pull in and the fat pushes up, you get the dimpled surface. It is an architecture, not a substance, which is why nothing that shifts water or softens tissue for an afternoon changes it — the fuller mechanism is worth reading if you are deciding what to spend on.

It is also close to universal in women, across every body size, and largely down to how the connective tissue is arranged rather than anything you did.

What a drainage session honestly gives you

Less fluid held between the tissues, for a day or two. On a leg that feels puffy, that can make the surface look marginally smoother in the mirror that evening. It is a real effect and a small, brief one, and it is not the same as reducing cellulite.

If a clinic sells you a course of drainage on before-and-after photographs of dimpling, ask what the photographs are meant to be showing and how long afterwards they were taken.

What we do not have

We do not have a cellulite treatment. No cavitation, no radiofrequency body device, no vacuum or roller machine, nothing on the menu that targets the structure described above. If that is what you came for, we would rather you knew now than after a consultation.

The only honest lever on appearance

What sits underneath skin changes how the surface reads. Building the muscle under the area can firm the shape a little, and that is a genuine but modest effect on appearance rather than on the cellulite itself. Nobody should be promising you removal, including us.

What it costs, if you want the drainage anyway

ServiceTimePriceNotes
Manual lymphatic drainage massage60 min$135For fluid and comfort, not for cellulite
Standard massage, 60 minutes60 min$115Cheaper, and equally uninvolved with cellulite

Prices are pre-tax. Massage therapy is a taxable supply in Québec rather than an exempt health service. Plenty of people book drainage because it feels good, which is a perfectly sound reason to buy it.

What we will not do

  • Sell lymphatic drainage as a cellulite treatment.
  • Use before-and-after dimpling photographs to sell a massage.
  • Call drainage a detox, a cleanse or a slimming treatment.
  • Suggest cellulite is a hygiene, weight or effort failure. It is not.

When we will not treat you at all

Active infection including cellulitis, congestive heart failure, a known or suspected blood clot, untreated or active cancer, and over broken skin or an active skin condition in the area.

See a doctor if

What you are calling cellulite is painful, tender, warm, or came on quickly — dimpling itself is not painful, and pain points at something else. Also for one-sided swelling, or skin that is thickening, discolouring or hardening.

Where to find us

This page is general information and is not medical advice. Prices are current as of 3 September 2026 and are stated before tax; massage therapy is a taxable supply in Québec. New Age Spa does not offer a cellulite treatment and makes no claim that manual lymphatic drainage, massage or any service on our menu reduces, removes or improves cellulite. Manual lymphatic drainage is a light-pressure technique that temporarily reduces fluid held between tissues; it is not a detoxifying, cleansing, slimming, weight-loss or fat-reduction treatment, and any change in the appearance of the skin surface is small and short-lived. Cellulite is a structural feature of connective tissue, skin and fat, is present in the large majority of women across all body sizes, and is not caused by weight, hygiene or lack of effort. Treatment is not performed where there is active infection including cellulitis, congestive heart failure, a known or suspected blood clot, untreated or active cancer, or over broken skin or an active skin condition. Skin that is painful, tender, warm, rapidly changing, thickening, discolouring or hardening, and one-sided swelling, should be assessed by a physician.
