If you have been doing your research about facials, you probably already know that it is a salon service that can be relaxing, rejuvenating, preventative, and corrective. You might even already know that facials are highly customizable, and the best ones are always going to be the facial treatments that are created with the specifics of your own individual needs in mind.
This is why attending a private consultation at a quality spa or salon before your facial treatment is always a good idea.
Here are some of the most popular facial treatment options you can choose from, as well as the ways they can be personalized depending on your needs and your favourite spa’s signature twists.
Facials for different skin types
A facial for dry skin
If you find your skin tight, rough, and flaky, a dry skin facial might be just what the esthetician ordered for you. Dry skin facials will typically include a cleanse, tone, and five-minute steam before a mild, granular exfoliating product designed for dry skin is massaged in to clear the pores. Then, eye cream is applied around the eye area, and moisturizing lotion or cream is applied to the skin with a facial massage.
A facial for dry skin can also include electrotherapy in two optional add-ons: either galvanic treatment or a high frequency, indirect current. You can also opt for additional specialty moisturizing products and massage with your facial.
For instance, at New Age Spa, you can choose our signature version of a facial for dry skin which is called a Hydradermabrasion Facial. This is a water-based version of microdermabrasion which deeply hydrates and uses antioxidants to exfoliate and protect the skin against dryness and dullness associated with dehydration. Hydrodermabrasion facials can also help to improve skin texture, unclogging pores, acne, and hyperpigmentation.
A facial for oily skin
If shiny skin, comedones or light acne are the skin concerns you are looking to solve, a good option for you to consider is a facial for oily skin. These should include a deep cleanse with a cleanser intended for oily skin, a five-minute steam, and exfoliation for any blackheads, clogged pores, and acne.
Another cleanser can be applied on any clogged pores after this step, before a negative galvanic current may be applied to the area to help with desincrustation. Then, this kind of facial will typically include a manual extraction of visible comedones for no more than five minutes.
A positive galvanic current will soon be applied after the extractions to rebalance the pH of the skin. The esthetician will also apply an astringent lotion, toner for oily skin, or a special post-extraction serum applied after the extraction process. High frequency might then be applied to the face, before a hydration fluid designed for oily or combination skin is massaged in.
Next comes a clay-based mask that will work its magic in about 10 minutes. Once your esthetician removes your mask, they will apply a moisturizer that is meant for oily and combination skin. This facial will help to relieve oily skin, and prevent further blemishes from forming. At New Age Spa, we offer a facial for oily skin called the Deep Cleansing Facial.
A facial for acne-prone skin
If your main concern with your skin is acne, you should opt for this kind of facial. Your esthetician will wash your face with a cleanser created specifically for oily and acne-prone skin. Then, they will steam your face for about five minutes.
A cleansing lotion or gel will then be applied to any area with pimples or clogged pores for a negative galvanic current that should last several minutes. This helps to ease the extractions. Your skincare professional will either use manual tools or an electric device for the extractions, and will then apply either an astringent lotion, a toner for oily skin, or a specialized serum created just for post-extraction.
Afterward, direct high frequency will be applied using a mushroom shaped electrode, and if galvanic desincrustation was used before the extraction, a positive galvanic current will be used next. This helps to establish a proper pH level to the skin surface.
Acne prone skin should not be massaged. Instead, the esthetician will apply an antibacterial or sulphur-based mask to all oily and acne-prone areas. If the skin is more complex, any dryer areas, such as the eye and neck areas, might have a dehydrating gel mask applied as well. These masks will stay on for about 10 minutes.
After any masks are removed, a toner, and then a specialized lotion – both designed for oily and acne prone skin – will be applied. At New Age Spa, we offer our Pro Peeling Facials, which are Dermalogica branded chemical peels, for this skin type. It also helps with reducing keratosis pilaris, fine lines, discoloration, texture, tone, and dullness.
Facials by benefit
A facial for sensitive skin
If you have sensitive skin and are shopping for a facial that will be soothing, repairing and hydrating, you should choose a hydrogel facial. This is made just for people with sensitive and dry skin.
A Casmara or Hydro Jelly mask can be added to a multi-step facial of your choice. Good for damaged, dehydrated, inflamed skin, as well as pregnancy-friendly, this mask is packed with vitamins and will leave you with a radiant glow.
It even helps to alleviate puffy under-eye bags. At New Age Spa, you can ask for our signature Hydrogel Facial.
A facial for pores and exfoliation
If the main issue with your skin is the size of your pores, there are facials that are just for exfoliating and minimizing the appearance of them. You might want to select a carbon peel, also known as Hollywood peel, for your next facial.
This pore reducing treatment is notorious for improving acne prone and oily skin. It can reduce breakouts, diminish skin shine, and balance sebum levels so you can avoid developing enlarged pores, comedones, and breakouts afterward.
At New Age Spa, we typically offer the Carbon Peel Facial for these needs, however they are temporarily unavailable at the moment.
A facial for summer-friendly deep hydration
If you are looking to clear your complexion and restore life into dull, fatigued, stressed skin, a refreshing hydrating treatment will be right for you. You will want to choose the G.M. Collins Algo Mask facial, which is currently available at New Age Spa. We now offer all G.M. Collins’ products in many of your facials and treatments. Learn more about our other G.M. Collins products here.
This Algo Mask facial treatment will soothe and hydrate your skin while also minimizing the appearance of redness and providing relief to any sensitive skin. It is a thermo-cooling treatment that will be refreshing for summer spa days. This facial also provides instant radiance for illuminated skin, perfect for any summer vacation.
A facial for contouring or lifting
If plumping and smoothing is your prime focus, a microdermabrasion facial may be best suited for you. This deep-reaching treatment is meant for clients who are looking to resolve uneven skin texture, lines, wrinkles, acne and other scars, and large pores through an electric micro-needle process that increases collagen production. The process can also help with dark under eye circles, stretch marks, and rosacea.
A facial for texture
If you are concerned with texture, you might want to opt for dermaplaning facials. This is a medical-grade deep exfoliation treatment that can produce instant and dramatic smoothing results. Dermaplaning will leave you with silky, smooth skin which will help as a starting surface for makeup application, and offer you a long-lasting natural glowing. At New Age Spa, you can choose our Dermaplaning Facial for these benefits.
A facial for the back
Not all facials need to be for the face. Sometimes you’ll want to treat your back with that same kind of TLC. Back facials are similar to facial treatments despite the change of location. Depending on the skin condition, your esthetician might use peels or hydro dermabrasion techniques to deeply cleanse the skin and remove any skin imperfections. Whichever method, when you leave your session, your skin will be more soft and supple so you can bare your shoulders with more confidence. At New Age Spa, we offer our signature Back Rescue Facial for this purpose.
