Did you know the skin is made up of multiple layers? Different skin conditions can affect these layers and often require specialized facial treatments or procedures.
Depending on each patient’s skin concern, the skin experts at New Age Spa will determine which treatment will provide an effective remedy for the affected skin layers.
The skin you’re in
The skin is more than just our outermost shell! It protects the body from harmful bacteria, microbes and elements. The skin is also vital for regulating body temperature! It allows us the privilege of sensations such as touch and experience warm and cold.
As the most significant external organ of the body, taking up around 20 square feet, the skin requires unique and specialized care from dermatological experts and skin care professionals.
Understanding the skin layers
The skin is made up of three distinct layers. The first two main layers contain the melanocyte cells, producing the skin’s colour and tone. The third layer, sometimes called the subcutaneous fat, provides more essential self-sustaining purposes.
- Epidermis – The outermost layer of the skin. The epidermis provides water-proof protection for the body. In addition, the epidermis is where you’ll find the melanin that creates each person’s unique skin tone.
- Dermis – The dermis is where the connective tissue is found. Here is the home of hair follicles and sweat glands.
- Subcutaneous Tissue – The third and deepest skin layers are connective tissue and fat. This layer provides a shock-absorbing protective cushion for the organs and insulation to keep the body warm.
