Is red light therapy worth it? The number to weigh is not $135 but $135 times the sessions
By the team at New Age Spa · Updated 3 September 2026
A session is $135. But light therapy is cumulative, so a single session is not a treatment, it is a sample. A course that would actually show you something runs to eight, twelve or more.
That means the honest figure to weigh is four figures, not three. Do that multiplication before you book, because it changes the answer for a lot of people.
The arithmetic nobody puts on a price list
- Eight sessions: $1,080
- Twelve sessions: $1,620
- And light therapy is maintenance, not a cure — results fade if you stop, so for many people the real cost is ongoing rather than a one-off course.
None of that makes it a bad purchase. It makes it a purchase you should compare against what else that money buys, which is the comparison a price-per-session figure quietly prevents you from making.
Who it is genuinely worth it for
- You have a specific skin reason. Calming inflammation, supporting skin that breaks out, settling things after other treatments. A defined job, not a general hope.
- You will actually come regularly. Frequency is the whole mechanism. Sporadic attendance is money spent on almost nothing.
- It is supporting something else. Light works best as an adjunct next to treatment that is doing the heavier work, rather than as the plan on its own.
Who it is not worth it for
- Anyone wanting one dramatic, visible change. That is not what this does.
- Anyone who cannot commit to the frequency. Buy nothing rather than buy a third of a course.
- Anyone buying it as a general wellness purchase on the strength of broad health claims. The evidence is strongest for skin and thins quickly beyond it.
The honest test for whether it worked
Not a before-and-after photograph. The realistic question is whether you would notice if you stopped. Light therapy produces a gradual, modest change that you see before anyone else does, and a treatment like that is judged over months by the person living in the skin.
If that sounds underwhelming, that is the accurate impression, and it is better to have it now than after $1,000.
Two ways to spend less and get more
The same money, better used. If you are contemplating four figures on your skin, the free consultation is the place to ask whether that budget does more elsewhere — on treating the underlying problem rather than calming its surface. Sometimes the answer is yes, and we would rather tell you.
A device instead of a course. For a cumulative treatment, the thing you own beats the thing you drive to — a home mask you will actually use will out-deliver a clinic course for most people, and we are not selling one.
What it costs here
| Service | Time | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free Facial Consult | 15 min | No charge | Where to ask whether this is the right use of the budget |
| Red Light Therapy Facial | 45 min | $135 | Per session, not per course |
| Deep Cleansing Facial + LED | 60 min | $135 | Same price, 60 minutes, with a facial around it |
| Red Light Therapy — Full Body | 45 min | $165 | A different purchase entirely |
Same prices at all four clinics. Face and full body are bought for different reasons and should not be compared on price alone.
What we will not do
- Quote you a per-session price without saying it is a course.
- Sell a course to someone who has told us they cannot attend regularly.
- Show you a dramatic before-and-after and imply it is typical.
- Claim health benefits beyond the skin to justify the cost.
When we will not treat you at all
During pregnancy, if you take medication that makes you sensitive to light, if you have a condition made worse by light exposure, or over active infection or broken skin. Eye protection is worn for every session.
See a doctor if
You have a photosensitive condition such as lupus or porphyria, you take photosensitising medication, or you have a history of skin cancer. And if the skin problem you are trying to spend this money on has never been diagnosed, that appointment comes first — it is cheaper and it decides everything after it.

This page is general information and is not medical advice. Prices are current as of 3 September 2026, are per session, and can change; the multi-session figures shown are simple multiplications of the per-session price and are illustrations rather than quoted packages. Light therapy effects are cumulative and depend on repeated sessions, results are gradual and modest, they are not permanent and can fade when sessions stop. Outcomes vary between individuals and no result is guaranteed. Evidence for light therapy is strongest and most specific for effects on skin; no broader health claims are made here, and light therapy is not a weight-loss or fat-removal treatment. New Age Spa does not sell home LED devices and receives no commission on any device. Treatment is not performed during pregnancy, where a photosensitive condition exists, while taking photosensitising medication, or over active infection or broken skin. Eye protection is worn for every session. Anyone with a photosensitive condition such as lupus or porphyria, taking photosensitising medication, or with a history of skin cancer should consult a physician first, as should anyone whose skin condition has not been diagnosed.
