A lasered neckline is a decision you cannot grow out
By the team at New Age Spa · Updated 1 September 2026
Laser gives permanent reduction, not permanent removal — fewer hairs, finer and slower, rather than a bare patch forever. That distinction matters everywhere, and it matters most on a face, because this is the one area where the result is a design choice.
Reduce the hair under a beard line and you cannot put it back. If your beard might change over the next ten years, treat the parts you will never want hair on, and leave the fashionable line alone.
Who this genuinely helps
The strongest case is not tidiness, it is razor bumps. If shaving your neck leaves you with ingrown hairs, inflamed spots and dark marks that never fully clear, that is a real problem, it is more common with coarse or curly hair, and reducing the hair reduces the cause. Men who come in for that get more out of this than men who come in for a clean line.
The second case is time. Shaving a neck every second day for thirty years is a lot of mornings, and a course that thins it out meaningfully changes the routine.
What to know before booking
| Point | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| It targets pigment | Grey, white and true blonde hair responds poorly or not at all. Dark hair on lighter skin is the easiest case |
| Reduction, not removal | Expect fewer, finer, slower hairs, and occasional maintenance rather than a permanent end |
| Multiple sessions | Hair is only treatable in one phase of its cycle, which is why it takes a course spaced over months |
| Shave, do not pluck | Shave before a session. Plucking or waxing between sessions removes the very thing the laser aims at |
| Deeper skin | Treatable, at lower settings and more sessions — the reasoning is in laser on deeper skin |
Where we would draw the line, and where we would not
Below the jaw and down the neck, well under any line you might ever wear, is the safe zone — that hair is never part of a beard. The area right at the edge of a current style is where we would slow you down, because a line that suits you now is a line you are committing to.
The same applies between the eyebrows and along the cheek. Reducing a bit of stray growth is low risk. Redrawing an edge is not, and a laser is a poor tool for something you might want to change your mind about.
What a course looks like
- Sessions are short. A neck or chin is a fifteen-minute booking; a full beard contour is thirty.
- Sessions are spaced weeks apart, and the interval is set by the hair cycle rather than by your schedule.
- Expect some maintenance afterwards. Anyone promising you will never shave again is overselling.
- Avoid strong sun immediately before and after, and use sunscreen on the treated area.
What we will not do
- Tell you laser is permanent removal, because it is permanent reduction.
- Take payment for treating grey, white or blonde hair, which will not respond.
- Laser right up to a current beard line without making sure you have thought past this year.
- Treat skin that is currently sunburned, tanned or actively broken out.
See a doctor if
Shaving leaves you with painful, deep or recurring inflamed lumps rather than ordinary bumps, an area is spreading with warmth and redness, or you have keloid scarring at the jaw or neck. Severe pseudofolliculitis has medical treatments worth knowing about, and keloids change what is safe to do.

This page is general information and is not medical advice. Laser hair removal achieves permanent reduction rather than permanent removal, does not work on grey, white or blonde hair, and is not suitable for every skin type or every area. Painful or recurring inflamed lesions after shaving should be assessed by a physician.
