Check the colour before you book: ear hair often turns grey early, and grey does not respond
By the team at New Age Spa · Updated 1 September 2026
This is a fifteen-minute, eighty-dollar treatment, and the single thing that decides whether it works costs you nothing to check. The laser finds hair by its pigment. Ear hair is one of the first places men go grey, and grey, white and true blonde hair will not respond at any number of sessions.
Look in a mirror in good light first. If it is dark, this works well. If it has already turned, a trimmer is your answer and we would rather tell you that here than take the booking.
What we treat, and what we do not
| Area | Us |
|---|---|
| The outer ear — rim, lobe, the visible fold | Yes. This is the treatment |
| The tuft at the opening that shows in profile | Yes, the part that is visible and reachable from outside |
| Deep inside the ear canal | No. A canal is not somewhere a laser goes, and that hair is doing a job |
| Inside the nose | No, and we do not offer it. Nasal hair filters what you breathe |
For the nose, a rounded trimmer is the sensible tool. Plucking nasal hair is worth avoiding entirely — it is a genuine route to an infected follicle in an area of the face where that matters.
Why it appears in the first place
It is not a hygiene issue and it is not something you started doing wrong. With age, fine near-invisible hair in certain places thickens into the coarse, visible kind, and the ears and the eyebrows are where men notice it first. It arrives on its own schedule and it does not go back.
The alternatives, honestly
- Trimming. Works, costs almost nothing, and is forever — every week or two, indefinitely.
- Plucking. The rim of the ear is thin-skinned and unforgiving, and an ingrown or infected follicle there is genuinely unpleasant.
- Waxing. Effective and briefly quite painful in this spot, with the same regrowth cycle as anywhere else.
- Laser. Permanent reduction rather than removal, over a few short sessions, and only if the hair is dark.
What a course looks like
Sessions are fifteen minutes and spaced weeks apart, because hair is only treatable during one phase of its growth cycle. Expect several, then occasional maintenance. Nothing about this is dramatic and nothing about it takes much of your day.
If you are also thinking about the neckline, that is a bigger decision than this one and worth reading first — a beard line you treat is a line you commit to. On deeper skin, settings come down and session counts go up, for the reasons in laser on deeper skin.
What we will not do
- Take payment to treat grey, white or blonde hair.
- Put a laser anywhere near the ear canal or inside the nose.
- Promise you will never trim again, because reduction is not removal.
- Treat an ear that is inflamed, broken or recently sunburned.
See a doctor if
An ear is painful, discharging, or you have lost hearing on that side — none of that is a hair problem. Also if you have a mole or a changing lesion on the ear, which is a common site for sun damage and should be looked at before any cosmetic treatment.

This page is general information and is not medical advice. Laser hair removal achieves permanent reduction rather than permanent removal and does not work on grey, white or blonde hair. It is not performed inside the ear canal or the nose. Ear pain, discharge or hearing loss needs medical assessment.
