Facial massage in Montreal: what it does for your skin

Facial massage in Montreal: what it does for your skin

What it reliably does. Moves fluid so the face looks less puffy, lifts circulation so the complexion looks brighter, and releases jaw and forehead tension most people did not know they were holding.

What it does not do. Change your facial structure. Anyone selling permanent contouring from massage is selling a story.

Facial massage is the part of a treatment people remember and the part least likely to be explained. It is also, for a surprising number of clients, the reason they rebook.

The three real effects

Fluid

The face holds fluid overnight, particularly under the eyes and along the jaw. Directed massage moves it toward the lymph nodes in the neck, and the difference shows the same day. This is the most reliable effect and the fastest.

Circulation

Working the face brings blood to the surface, which is why the complexion looks brighter and more even afterwards. It lasts a day or two. Pleasant, real, temporary.

Tension

The jaw, temples and forehead hold more tension than almost anywhere else, largely from clenching and screen focus. Releasing the masseter from the outside is the part clients most often say they did not know they needed.

When not to

Not over active, inflamed breakouts — friction spreads bacteria and irritates. Not immediately after a resurfacing treatment, when skin needs leaving alone. If you have rosacea, mention it: heat and friction are common triggers and the esthetician will adapt.

Before an event

Two or three days ahead, not the day before. And nothing you have never had — the week of a wedding is not the moment to discover how your skin reacts to something new.

Where

All four clinics across Montreal and Laval. The Montreal clinic is at 2365 rue Saint-Patrick in Griffintown, a short walk from Charlevoix métro.

Frequently asked

What does facial massage actually do?

Three things reliably: it moves fluid, so the face looks less puffy; it increases circulation, so the complexion looks brighter for a day or two; and it releases tension in the jaw and forehead, which a lot of people carry without noticing. It does not change facial structure.

Is it the same as a lymphatic drainage facial?

Overlapping but not identical. Lymphatic drainage is a specific, very light technique aimed at fluid. Facial massage within a treatment is broader — circulation, muscle tension and relaxation as well. If puffiness is the whole concern, book the drainage.

Will it help with jaw tension or clenching?

Often, yes. The masseter is worked from the outside as part of the treatment, and people who clench at night frequently notice it most. For persistent jaw pain, clicking or locking, see a dentist — that is a joint issue.

How often should I have one?

Monthly suits most people as part of a regular facial. Before an event, two or three days ahead rather than the day before.

Can I have it if I have acne?

Not over active inflamed breakouts. An esthetician will work around them or recommend treating the acne first. Say so when you book so the right treatment is scheduled.

Which treatment includes facial massage?

The European Facial with Lifting Massage is built around it. Massage is also part of most of our facials to some degree — ask for more of it and any esthetician will oblige.
