You already have the muscle. Whether anyone can see it is decided by something else

Every person reading this has a rectus abdominis, and it is already segmented. Abs are not built into existence; they are uncovered. What decides whether they are visible is the thickness of the layer sitting over them.

EMS works on the muscle underneath that layer. It is genuine work and it does something real, but it is not the variable that makes abs appear, and we would rather say so before you buy a course than after.

What actually decides whether abs show

FactorHow much it decidesCan EMS change it?
The layer of fat over the muscleAlmost all of it. This is the variableNo. EMS does not remove fat
How developed the muscle isSome. A thicker muscle reads sooner once the covering is thinPartly — this is the part it works on

The inherited part, which nobody advertises

The bands across a rectus abdominis are tendinous intersections, and how many you have, how evenly they line up, and whether the midline runs straight are all things you were born with. That is why some people show four segments and others six, and why plenty of very lean people have visibly asymmetric abs.

No treatment, ours or anyone else's, changes that architecture. A clinic showing you a photograph of someone else's midsection is showing you their genetics as much as their programme.

Where EMS is honest and where it is not

It contracts the abdominal wall harder and more often than most people manage unassisted, and over a series that builds some tone. Tone in the wall changes the outline of a midsection, which is a real result and the one we will describe.

What it will not do is thin the layer above the muscle, and definition is that layer. If your goal is visible abs, the lever is body composition — food, training volume, sleep, time — and it is not something we sell. The page on why this is not a fat treatment makes the same point at length, and what happens when you stop covers the maintenance side.

So who is it actually for

People who already train and want the wall worked in a way that is awkward to isolate. People coming back from a long gap who want a starting point. People who like it, find it convenient, and are clear-eyed about what they are buying. All legitimate, none of them promised a photograph.

Who it is not for: anyone whose real goal is to lose the covering layer. That is a different problem with a different answer, and a course of EMS is an expensive way to not solve it.

What it costs

TreatmentTimePrice
Free body consultation15 minNo charge
Slimwave EMS with infrared45 min$135

Same price at all four clinics. It only does anything as a series, so the number that matters is eight to twelve visits over four to six weeks — the arithmetic is set out here, and it is worth doing before the first appointment.

What we will not do

  • Suggest that EMS reveals abdominal definition. It works the muscle, not the covering.
  • Show you someone else's midsection as a forecast of yours.
  • Sell a course to someone whose stated goal is fat loss.
  • Claim that treating an area reduces fat in that area.

When we will not treat you at all

A pacemaker or any implanted electrical device, pregnancy, epilepsy, metal in the area being treated, or broken or infected skin. For the abdomen, add any hernia you can feel or have been told about. Raise heart conditions and hernias when you book rather than once the straps are on.

See a doctor if

A bulge appears in the abdominal wall when you cough, strain or stand and settles when you lie down, which is how a hernia behaves. Also if there is a ridge or gap down the midline when you lift your head from lying flat, which is a separation of the abdominal muscles and wants assessing, usually by a physiotherapist, before any course starts.

What we offer for this

Prices are a starting point and the consultation is free. What actually suits you is decided when we see the skin, not from a page.

Where to find us

This page is general information and is not medical advice. Prices are current as of 1 September 2026 and can change. Electrical muscle stimulation works on muscle: it does not remove fat, reduce weight, or reduce fat in a treated area, and it does not produce visible abdominal definition, which depends on body composition. Results vary between people and require ongoing maintenance. EMS is contraindicated with pacemakers and implanted electrical devices, during pregnancy, with epilepsy, over metal implants, and over an abdominal hernia. A bulge that appears on straining, or a ridge or gap down the midline, should be assessed by a physician or physiotherapist.
