What is Laser hair removal?

Permanent Laser Hair Removal is a type of epilation that involves using a laser to target the melanin within the hair follicles to thermally damage the hair bulb safely and painlessly. This causes the hair to grow back sparsely and weaker at first, and for some hairs to fall out. Over time, with a few to several subsequent sessions, you can look forward to your targeted area being permanently hairless. Permanent Laser Hair Removal is available almost anywhere on the body where hair can grow.

Laser hair removal technology is designed to heat up and damage hair follicles to stop their growth cycle. The laser’s unique feature is that it’s attracted to the melanin or pigment, precisely targeting the skin’s hair without damaging surrounding tissue. This technology makes for better and faster results. Each laser session, your hair will get weaker and eventually stop growing.

How does laser hair removal work?

This form of hair removal uses the energy of a laser to eliminate any hairs on the face or body. It can be used on any body part where there is hair that you would like removed permanently. The laser is shone onto the area, absorbing the melanin in the hair. That is the part of the hair that is responsible for producing pigment. When the laser interacts with the melanin, the hair follicle is thermally damaged. This results in reducing and preventing future growth from that spot.

You will be asked to exfoliate at home in the shower afterward in order to speed up the process. After your first appointment, you will likely notice that your hair grows back sparser than it did before the treatment, but it will take a few weeks before the hairs start to fall out, and even more weeks (and sessions) before they are permanently removed.

Since the laser light targets the dark pigment found in hair, the majority of laser hair removal options are often most effective on people who have darker hair and lighter skin tones. Each client has different skin types and skin tones, so different wavelengths can be used depending on individual client needs. This allows those with darker skin tones to avoid the laser discolouring the melanin found in surrounding skin.

To determine which wavelength you would receive, or if this treatment is your best option, FREE consultation with a medical esthetician is included during all appointments. They will be able to make sure you get the best hair removal treatment option that is targeted specifically for your own individual needs.
